TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Fabric
Our standard cushions have tweed (30% wool) from the biggest UK mills with a 90,000 rub-test and 5 year guarantee on fabric wear. Stain protection is also an option, particularly useful for churches with resident bats. We can provide both fabric cards and larger sample fabric pieces to help you choose from a wide range of over 100 colours.

Foam
It is very important foam is comfortable for short and long sitting periods and is durable in shape and density. Our typical dimensions are 2" (5cm) thick foam, and 12" (30cm) deep, although these sizes are modified for each and every specification to provide the best fit to your existing pews and great comfort to your congregation. Pew Cushions Direct therefore use a 6lb 1.5 recon CMHR 40 hr polyurethane centre with 10mm softer toppers on each side. The foam is then covered with netting to prevent static from foam to fabric and give a neater finish to the cushion.
Netting
Our foam is fully encased with a stockinette which prevents the tweed upholstery catching on the foam. This provides a smooth finish to the cushion for many years.
Piping
Our cushions are not usually made with a traditional piping. Often we have found that piping with a paper core can disintegrate in the case of a spillage, while the more resilient plastic becomes uncomfortable during use. Instead, we create a piping like effect using the tweed itself, giving the cushions a neat and defined edge without impacting on the comfort.
Identifying Tags
Every now and again you may find yourself moving the pew cushions around, for whatever reason. When the pews are all different lengths, as is usually the case, this can create a problem when attempting to reposition the cushions on the correct pews. By applying identifying tags on the rear of the cushion, and supplying a diagram of the church, we are able to help you to quickly put each cushion in its correct place.
Cleaning
The tweed we use is washable and our cushions come with a zip along the rear edge to allow removal. Many liquids will wash out without the need for cover removal, and can be tackled with soap and water. Stain protection is also an option, as are clever, highly stain-resistant fabrics.
Kneelers and hassocks
These are also made to our high standards. They necessitate firmer foam and also feature a zip along the rear edge. Hassocks have a standard size of 12" wide x 9" deep x 4" thick, although being made to order, customers can dictate all dimensions as required.
